The United States Department of
Agriculture
(USDA) Forest Service has set up a Smart Forests network of long-term experimental forests and research sites across the US. The network is using a range of
sensors
to provide
real-time
data on air temperature, precipitation, relative humidity, wind speed, solar radiation,
soil
temperature and moisture, stream flow, and tree
phenology
, for
monitoring
and managing urban and rural forest environments. See a map of the participating experimental forest sites here. Learn more about the Smart Forests network in our radio episode with Lindsey Rustad.
