Collective: trees + algorithms + humans
Anaïs Berck is an artistic collective of humans, algorithms, and trees. It was founded by An Mertens in 2019. As a collective, they open a space where human intelligence is given a place alongside plant intelligence and artificial intelligence. Their work is called research art and can take various forms: from installations to publications, workshops, lectures, web apps, and a text-message diary.
Anaïs Berck took shape thanks to An's long-standing involvement with Constant, an organization for art and media in Brussels, focusing on the critical artistic use of technology, shared culture, collaborations, and feminisms.
Anaïs Berck received support for their work from FRArt (2021–2022) and the Flemish Government Digital Residencies and Arts (2020, 2023, and 2025). The work is shown in arts centres (Medialab Prado Madrid, Gaité Lyrique Paris, Constant Brussels, and more) and in visitor centres of parks and nature reserves (Molenplaats Sonsbeek Arnhem, Kalmthoutse Heide, De Liereman, National Park Bosland, and GC Wabo Zoniënwoud).
